Account customers ordering on the Shop UK website

At Shop UK, the Internet trading name of Fax UK Ltd, we have a long history of dealing with government bodies, NHS trusts and schools. For these government funded customers we are able to offer accounts allowing immediate despatch of stocked items. While many of these bodies have their own internal ordering systems, it is also possible to place orders using our website.

To place an order on our website, simply add the items you require to your shopping cart as normal and click Checkout. You will need to create an account on the web system, if you have not done so already, but please make sure that you enter the details of your invoice address here and include the name of your government body or trust in the first line of the address.

Next, tell our system that you would like delivery to a different address and fill out the details in the following screen. Add your order number to the delivery details box along with any contact names and telephone numbers.

When the site asks how you would like to pay for the order, select Post. This will complete the order and send the information to us. We will then add it to our off-line system as normal and send you a confirmation e-mail to let you know we have received the order. This e-mail will request that you reply to confirm that the order is correct. Only then will the order be processed and despatched.

Of course, some companies and government bodies have credit cards or purchasing cards. If you would like to use one of these, follow the steps above but select Card as your payment type. Our website does not retain card information for additional security.

Shop UK announce price reductions on Panasonic drum units

Shop UK enjoy saving our customers money, so we are very pleased to announce that, while updating our Panasonic drum unit section, we have been able to reduce some of the prices.

All laser machines, be they faxes, printers or multifunctions, use both a toner cartridge and a drum unit. Some machines have these two items combined into one, while some have them separated. The toner cartridge contains the powdered ink which makes up the actual print while the drum unit gets the paper into the correct place to receive the toner. Drums work by slowly rotating, wearing themselves out in the process, and will therefore need to be replaced once expired. However, they generally have a longer lifespan than a toner cartridge and therefore will not have to be changed as often.

Panasonic announce four new laser multifunction printers

Panasonic have always provided a number of multifunction printers in their office equipment range, but recently there has been a gap in the area of mono laser machines. To complete their product range, Panasonic have released the new KXMB2000 range of black and white multifunction printers which offer a number of great features.

The base machine is the KXMB2000E which is a plain paper, mono laser printer, mono laser copier and colour scanner with network capabilities. The next model, the KXMB2010E adds an authomatic document feeder to make use even easier. The KXMB2025 removes the network features, but adds a Super G3 fax to the mix, while the KXMB2030E returns the Ethernet network interface and completes the range.

Vega redesign their Focus OHP range

At ShopUK we like to keep our customers informed of not only the latest products, but also the latest changes in existing products. Therefore, we are pleased to inform you of an alteration to the Vega Focus range of OHPs (over head projectors).

This is the most popular range of over-head projector contained in our online catalogue and we feel that it important to make our customers aware of a slight change to the specifications. Previous versions of this machine have had a revolving head, allowing the image to be projected in any direction without moving the machine itself. This feature has been removed to create a more reliable product with the other features remaining unchanged.

In addition to this there have been some minor aesthetic changes including a change of colour for the adjusting dials from orange to black.

Please note that the official brochure from Vega is yet to be updated so remember these changes when reading it. The specifications of the new machine are yet to be fully confirmed by Vega and will be added to our website once they have been received.

Unfortunately, due to several factors, deliveries from ShopUK.co.uk may be delayed. This is because of both national weather conditions and local events.

The snow which has covered the country is causing a lot of delays in transport and is therefore having a major effect on deliveries. While services remain unaffected in some parts of the country, snowfall in other regions is forcing closure of schools, business and bus routes. As ShopUK.co.uk is situated in Shrewsbury, our rural location means that some members of staff are unable to get to work, while courier collections can also be affected.

In addition to the weather, the recent explosion in Shrewsbury town centre has meant the closure of several main roads, seriously affecting traffic flow throughout the town. While this has not caused problems for staff, it has caused problems for courier deliveries and collections and has forced the delay of some orders.

Over the past year, prices from all manufacturers have been changing in an unpredictable way. Because of these changes it became more difficult to maintain multiple rates on our online catalogue. We therefore made the decision to offer a single price on many of our consumables.

However, prices are now beginning to level out and, as a result, we have decided to reintroduce multiple rates on selected consumables, starting with Brother toners and drums. While their ink cartridges have always retained a multiple rate, the other consumables have gone through a few changes. Full specifications now online plus a new product from Brother

As reported in a previous news item, the Brother MFC9120CN, MFC9320CW, MFC8370DN and MFC8380DN had been added to our website but were awaiting the full specifications to be added.

We can now confirm that the specifications, supplied by Brother UK, have been added for each of these four products. Consumables for the colour machines are being added but, as they use existing toner and drum cartridges, the mono products have their extras available already.

In addition to this, Brother have added information on a new inkjet multifunction machine to their website, the MFC795CW. We are still awaiting a price confirmation on this product, but it will be added to our online catalogue as soon as we do.

BT digital cordless telephones are available in a variety of design styles and we have selected two models to include on our Internet site - the Studio range and the Aqua range. In response to feedback from our customers, we have added a new section to our website containing information about our company and our website.

As customers take their security into their own hands, we are sometimes asked to provide background information on our company. While this information was already available on our website, it has now been copied into the ShopUK Information area which can be found below the category menu on the left hand side of the screen.

This section also now houses a link to our Contact Us page. While the original link to this page remains at the top of the site, we felt that it was necessary to add a second link to further advertise our commitment to communicating with our customers. Many online companies do not advertise their telephone number at all, others have it tucked away and only respond to your calls with an automated message. ShopUK has our telephone number displayed clearly throughout our site and each and every call is answered by a person, not a machine*.

The main page in this new section deals with our website. We have tried to make our website as easy to use as we can but, due to the many and varied types of products we sell, some people have found it difficult to locate certain items. ShopUK can confirm to all our customers that, as we use couriers for all our deliveries, any postal strikes that take place should not affect despatch of your orders. For many years we have used courier companies, mainly Initial City-Link, to deliver our goods so that we may offer the best possible service. The tracking abilities of couriers make them the better option whether delivering large machines or small consumables.

Please be aware that some of our suppliers do send products to us by post and therefore these may be affected. Where possible we will find other ways of getting the goods to you with the smallest delay possible.

One area where output will be affected is the sending out of VAT invoices. These are sent by post as they are produced by our accounts department once goods have been despatched and will be delayed should a postal strike take place. If you urgently need a VAT invoice please let us know as we may be able to e-mail one to you. We automatically produce and post VAT invoices so only copies need to be requested, not originals.

Brother change their warranty system

Any A3 colour inkjet machine or laser machine registered within 30 days of purchase will receive an upgrade to a 1 year on-site warranty, while labelling machines will get a free 3 year warranty upgrade.

Discontinuation of Two Brother Multifunction Printers

Two Brother multifunction printers have been replaced with new models

Today, Fax UK Ltd trading as ShopUK.co.uk have removed two Brother multifunction printers from our website. Both these machines had been discontinued by Brother and remained on our system while we still had them in stock. As we have now run out of these particular machines we have made them unavailable to purchase.

The products removed are the Brother DCP9040CN and the Brother MFC885CW. Both of these machines were colour multifunction printers which offered a number of useful features. The great news is that both have been replaced by new models which offer even more versatility.

Replacing the DCP9040CN is the new Brother DCP9042CDN multifunction printer which, in addition to colour printing, copying and scanning, boasts automatic duplex printing and network capabilities.

The MFC885CW was a very successful product which was one of the first inkjet multifunction printers to have wireless networking and a cordless handset. As a result, Brother have decided to expand the range which is now serviced by the Brother MFC790CW and Brother MFC990CW. These products offer colour inkjet printing, faxing, scanning and copying and have wireless features. The MFC990CW is the direct replacement to the MFC885CW as it too includes a digital cordless telephone handset.

The first step to take in this interactive journey is the whiteboard.

There are many different makes of whiteboard available but one of the most popular is the SMART Technologies Smartboard. Brother announce the discontinuation of the 1020e and 1030e fax machines

After many years and several model adjustments, Brother has taken the decision to discontinue the 1020e and 1030e fax machines.

The increasing popularity of laser machines, thanks to the lower cost per copy and higher capacity consumables, has caused the orders of these ink film machines to drop. In addition to this, while the demand for a fax with built-in answerphone has remained, Brother have found that customers opt for the Brother T106 rather than the 1030e. Due to this situation and the factors involved, Brother have decided to stop producing these products and not directly replace them.

Consumables such as the replacement ink film packs and print cartridges will be available for some time and will continue to be produced.

As there are not going to be direct replacements, we would like to suggest some alternative products to consider. Instead of the Brother 1020e you could look at the Brother FAX-2920 or the Samsung SF560R. The Brother 1030e had a built-in answerphone so we recommend looking at the Brother T106 or the Canon JX510P though these machine have a slightly smaller recommended usage.

The Brother 1020e and Brother 1030e will be discontinued from September 2009 so stocks will begin to dwindle around that time. If you are looking to purchase either of these machines please call us to check availability on 01743 244 128.

Projectors and the Environment

With rising energy costs and an increasing awareness of the environmental impact of the use of AV equipment, more and more users are seeking projectors which maximise functionality while minimising running costs.

A typical 2000 ANSI lumens projector could use around 250 watts of power in use and 10 watts of power in standby. During a typical school year this would add up to around 150kg of C02 emissions and a cost of around £60 per projector in electricity bills.

Thyere are additional ways to save money and extend the life of a projector.

First and foremost, turn the projector off when not in use. Even with standby power usage of just 10w, this could add up to £6/projector over the course of the year. By choosing a projector with network control this could be managed and monitored remotely.

If a projector has an ECO mode then set this as the default. Typically this can reduce power consumption by around 20% while extending lamp life by up to 50% with minimal impact on the displayed image.

Make sure that the power cord is not pulled out of the projector before the lamp has cooled down. Some projectors allow you to do this such, as projectors within the Panasonic range. Otherwise this can seriously reduce lamp life requiring a replacement lamp and may invalidate the manufacturer warranty.

Choose a projector with a longer lamp life. A number of Mitsubishi projectors offer up to 5000 hours of lamp life, by choosing a projector with a longer life although it may be slightly morer expensive but the savings in electricity usage and replacement lamps will more than receover this cost.
