Originally designed for use in educational establishments such as schools and colleges, interactive whiteboards are so versatile that it was only a matter of time before companies started realising the possibilities of this type of technology.

While many of the interactive boards come with education software included, they work exactly like the desktop on your computer and are operated either by touch or the whiteboard pens. The most important thing to remember when ordering an interactive whiteboard is that you also order a data projector as it is this which creates the image on the board. The type of projector you use with the board is important as it can have an effect on the image quality and also any shadowing which may occur. Some boards, most notably the SMARTboard i series, come with short throw projectors attached to the board by a boom arm.
